Designed and built by the US Lockheed Martin, the F-35 is another 5th-generation fighter with lower specifications than the F-22 Raptors and much more cheaper. It is a single-engine stealth fighter that capable to take off and land vertically, which the Raptors are not designed to.The product is the result from the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program, which is a multi-national funding program, primarily by US, UK and some other European countries that sits as different level of partnerships.
It first flight was on 15 December 2006 and currently still under developing/testing stage. Various countries such as Japan and Singapore have showed interests to purchase this jet as a plan to replace the current outdated machines in their inventory.
The price tag is expected to be around USD50 million each in 2001, but has shot up to USD83 million to-date.
